ABOUT

The producers of a new documentary, Indiana’s Choice, invite you to learn about how privatization affects public schools from a virtual panel discussion on Wednesday, May 19 from 7 to 8 p.m.

The documentary features voices of Hoosier teachers, administrators, students and parents on the frontlines of the education policy experiment of privatization. The film examines how school choice enables segregation of Hoosier children and discrimination against families and educators.

The panel is made up four people who were involved in making Indiana’s Choice:

Dountonia Batts, a diversity, equity and inclusion practitioner, consultant, advocate and educator

Dr. Phil Harris, a lifelong educator at the elementary and university levels, and co-author of the book The Myths of Standardized Tests

Lacy Hawkins, a social studies teacher at Bedford North Lawrence High School

Steve Hinnefeld, a journalist and author of School Matters, a blog about education in Indiana.

Harris and Hinnefeld are two of the film’s producers.

Byron Turner, a member of the Indiana Coalition for Public Education, will moderate the panel discussion.

Indiana’s Choice is available for online viewing, and high-resolution versions are available for showing in theaters.

Log-in information for the panel discussion is available at https://www.icpe-monroecounty.org/indianaschoice.html
