Want to learn more about Technical Theater? Interested in putting on events but not clear on the technical terminology you’ll need? Looking to be more involved at the BCT as a union stagehand? The Buskirk-Chumley Theater is opening its free Technical Theatre Training sessions for I.A.T.S.E 618 stage hands to the general public. These three-part sessions are available to any skill and experience level. Each session will follow the following format:
5:30-6:30pm: Introduction to Technical Theatre An introduction to terminology, equipment, and the great capacity they provide to transform a performance space. This section is particularly suited to individuals and groups interested in renting the Theater and/or presenting events, members of the arts community looking to increase their general field knowledge, and anyone who has ever been curious about the backstage functions of a performance space.
6:30-7:00pm: Discussion Topic Focusing on a different topic each time, someone from the technical theater community will lead a discussion about their area of expertise.
7:00-8:30pm: Lighting and Audio Workshop These sessions provide opportunities to delve into practical, hands-on work with lighting and audio equipment as well as some simple staging and theater operations. We will work together to set up aspects of a different mock BCT event for each session.
The guest speaker for this session will be John DeLong, Stage Manager of the IU Auditorium and the discussion will focus on rigging/counterweight systems.
