10th Annual Spring Swing Dance to be held at Bloomington North High School Bloomington, IN/USA
The Bloomington High School North Jazz Bands will present the 10th Annual Swing Dance on Friday, March 31st at 7:00 p.m. with a special guest appearance by singer and BHSN alum, Sadie Johnson. The event will be held in the BHSN cafe and will include complimentary swing dance lessons provided by the IU Swing Dance Club, followed by open dancing. Live big band music will be provided by all four BHSN jazz bands and combos under the direction of Janis Stockhouse & Thomas Wilson. Refreshments will be available for sale in the form of club mocktails. 1920s - 1940s dress is encouraged and will be judged during our costume contest. A dance partner is not required. Admission is $10.00 for 18 and under/seniors; $20.00 for adults; $50 family maximum. Tickets available at the door and online. Cash and credit cards accepted. About BHSN Jazz Bands Bloomington High School North has a stellar jazz program. It offers four jazz band classes and provides opportunities for student-led combos to form independently. The Advanced Jazz Band is among the nation’s top high school jazz ensembles. 2022-2023 has proven to be another exceptional year.
North jazz bands have participated in the Bloomington Jazz Fest, Purdue Jazz Fest, University of Louisville Jazz Fest, and Ball State Jazz Fest along with ISSMA District Jazz. Several band members were selected for the IJEA All-District Jazz Honor Band. Additionally, students were chosen for the IJEA All-State Jazz Ensemble.
