Beth Cate, Clinical Associate Professor with SPEA, will speak on “The Supreme Court’s Constitutional Crossroads.”

Beth Cate is a Clinical Associate Professor at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, teaching courses on law, policy, and public administration and serving as faculty coordinator for O’Neill’s major and minor in Law and Public Policy. She has won the O’Neill Student Choice Award as Most Inclusive Professor and twice received the Trustees Teaching Award. Her interests focus on constitutional and administrative law, intellectual property, data governance, and the intersection of law and religion. Among other publications, she has co-authored a chapter on the Supreme Court and information privacy in Fred H. Cate and James X. Dempsey (eds.) (2017) Bulk Collection: Systematic Government Access to Private-Sector Data. New York, NY: Oxford University Press. Before joining the faculty full-time in 2011, Professor Cate practiced law in the public and private sectors for 20 years. She earned her undergraduate degree in economics at George Washington University and her law degree at Harvard. When not on campus, she can often be found at the Indianapolis Zoo, where she is a member of the Founder Board of Directors and chair of the board’s Committee on Animal and Plant Collections.

The presentation will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the University Club Presidents’ Room. The presentation is free for members and guests. Lunch will follow in the Tudor Room around 12:40-12:45 p.m. Lunch is on our own.
