Creating Healthy Environments for Bisexual Women: A Research Trajectory Wendy Bostwick, PhD, MPH Associate Professor, Northern Illinois University Co-Director, Bisexual Research Collaborative on Health (BiRCH) Wendy Bostwick received her Masters and PhD in Community Health Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan’s Substance Abuse Research Center. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Public Health and Health Education Program at Northern Illinois University. She has worked in and with the LGBT community for nearly 20 years. Her research interests include health disparities, particularly those based on sex, gender, and sexual orientation; bisexual women’s health; the health effects of stigma and discrimination; microaggressions; and the measurement of sexual orientation. She has conducted numerous small studies exploring issues of stigma, stress and coping, social support and the role of community, and their connections to health. She recently received a grant from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities to conduct an electronic diary study, investigating the health effects of microaggressions. Her work has appeared in the American Journal of Public Health, Addiction, Culture, Health & Sexuality, LGBT Health and others. Additionally, Wendy is a founding member of BiRCH, the Bisexual Research Collaborative on Health, a collaborative effort with Indiana University, the Fenway Institute and others. Wendy also serves on the Board of Directors at the Guttmacher Institute, the leading sexual health and reproductive rights advocacy and research organization in the U.S.
