ABOUT

The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra will take listeners on a musical voyage as the group dives into a concert of water-inspired works that include:

Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave), Felix Mendelssohn’s richly atmospheric tone poem inspired by the majesty of Scotland’s western coast

Four Sea Interludes from Benjamin Britten’s opera Peter Grimes that evoke the stark beauty of the North Sea

Aqua, a tribute to the life and work of Jacques-Yves Cousteau by American composer Steve Heitzeg. The performance will be accompanied by a video about marine conservation from the Ocean Futures Society, a nonprofit organization founded by Cousteau’s son.

Before the concert and at intermission, the City of Bloomington will be on hand to provide educational materials and a video about how pollution affects our local waterways.

The concert also will feature up-and-coming local talent. Alice Ford, winner of the BSO’s 2019 Youth Concerto Competition, will perform Fantasia for Viola and Orchestra by Johann Hummel. In addition, the orchestra will debut two of the winning works from its 2018 Composition Competition. Among Waves, by Alex Berko, was one of two winners in the school division, and Jamie Kunselman’s From Under was the winner in the community division.

Tickets are available at the Buskirk-Chumley box office or online at bctboxoffice.org.
