ABOUT

Join us for an opportunity to make paper and create art with IU faculty member and artist, Laura Post, at the museum's Morton C. Bradley, Jr. Education Center (next door to the museum). These workshops are part of her Diversity and Biodiversity of Indiana Project sponsored by IU's Office of the Bicentennial. Three of her completed pieces are on exhibit at the Education Center through the month of April. Workshop Description: During this 2-part workshop, participants will learn to identify invasive plants, process them into pulp for papermaking, then make paper. Participants can attend Part 1 or Part 2, or both! Part 1: Thursday, April 18, 5-7pm We will examine the characteristics of various invasive plants of South Central Indiana. We will then turn the plants into paper pulp by steaming the bark, scraping it, cooking it, and beating it. Part 2: Saturday, April 20, 1-4pm We will use this pulp to make sheets of paper, as it has been done for centuries. We will also explore pulp painting, by combining different colors of plant materials to create designs and images.
