ABOUT

The Herman C. Hudson Symposium memorializes our department’s founder, who started the department in 1970, serving as its chair. Today, the symposium strives to represent and integrate the insights of students and faculty from multiple disciplines engaged in scholarship on the African diaspora.

This year's theme is "Seeds of Resistance," and the symposium will celebrate and explore various forms of environmental justice and activism. We will have presentations by academics, spoken word artists, and visual artists.
