Join us for The Power of Words: Changing Our World—One Author at a Time. Since 2007, the Friends and the Library have supported a biennial, community-wide reading initiative that has culminated with the author giving a free talk. For 2019, we have selected author Margaret McMullan.
McMullan is the author of numerous books for adults and youth and National Author Winner of the 2011 Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award. Her most recent book, Where the Angels Lived: One Family’s Story of Loss, Exile, and Return, is a moving look at the author’s own connection to the Holocaust, her family’s exile in Hungary during World War II, and the redemptive power of knowing and owning your own story.
McMullan's extensive body of work has been listed on many “best books” lists and has received multiple awards. The historically-based issues of racial and religious discrimination raised in her work continue to be relevant today. As we look at her books, some common themes emerge: The Perspective of Memory: Fear, Empowerment, Forgiveness. The main Power of Words program will take place at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 7 pm, a free presentation open to all.
