McCalla alumni, mark your calendars! On Saturday, June 14th, from 1–4 PM EST, former students of the historic McCalla School are invited to reunite, reminisce, and honor the legacy of this cherished institution.
Before Indiana University acquired McCalla in the 1970s, it was a beloved Bloomington elementary school, named after pioneering educator Margaret McCalla, the first female superintendent in Indiana. This event provides an opportunity for former students to reconnect, explore the building’s transformations, and share memories of their time at McCalla.
Attendees can engage with oral histories, artifacts, and photographs that capture McCalla’s school days, offering a glimpse into its longstanding significance in the community. Guests will also have the chance to contribute their own pictures, objects, and stories to enrich the collective history of the space.
The reunion will feature guided tours, allowing visitors to see how McCalla has evolved over the decades while preserving its original spirit. Whether you attended McCalla decades ago or know someone who did, all are welcome to drop in, reconnect, and celebrate this special place together.
The mission of University Collections at McCalla is to provide accessible exhibition and educational experiences, creating opportunities for students, faculty, and the community to engage with collections, IU-generated research, and creative projects in meaningful and innovative ways.
