Nicoleta is an MFA thesis exhibition that explores existential questions surrounding death, creation, and the search for meaning through a personal, matrilineal narrative. Grounded in the experiences of a mother’s death and a daughter’s birth, the work is an exercise in claiming and relinquishing control, while seeking acceptance in a complex world. Using watercolor, gouache, and various drawing media on paper and silk, the exhibition features small, colorful narrative paintings that blend symbolism, autofiction, and a playful approach to life’s profound questions. Drawing inspiration from children’s illustrations, folklore, and outsider art, the exhibition presents a new visual language and personal mythology, incorporating elements from diverse cultures and belief systems to offer a fresh perspective on life’s uncertainties.
